The Grandparents Are Here

I was listening to Michelle Obama on NPR. The story noted that even with the campaign in full swing, she only stays away from her children one night a week. On that one night, her mother stays with the kids to "let the stay up late, jump on the furniture and eat junk food." And she also noted that she was very blessed to have grandma give her kids that extra love.

As much as they drive me crazy sometimes, I have that same safety net with my parents. They are absolutely crazy about their grandchild. They are in town this weekend for a retirement party for an old family friend. They spoil her. They ignore my wishes. They let her run amok. They over feed her. They buy her way too much toys and junk. But I thank God that they are there for her and me.

How devoted are they? I am going to Seoul, Korea, next week for business. My father is recovering from hernia surgery and my stepmother goes in for her hip replacement surgery on Wednesday, and they still wanted her to stay with them. We declined, but it's nice to know that kind of support is only a 3.5 hour flight on Southwest Airlines away!

And now for the weight update. It was a very good week, since I managed to drop 3.8 pounds. I am now at 220.6 pounds, down a nice 28.6 pounds. I started jogging this week. This is a big deal for me, because it's not easy to jog when you're carrying so much weight. But I'm on it like white on rice.
